This tour will mainly concentrate on a study of the Rotorua Volcanic geology: a study of various kinds of volcanoes, their products, their land forms and associated geothermal activity.

Brief Places of focus for the geology of the Rotorua Volcanic Geology Tour

(Tours may not necessarily be done in the order listed below)

Day 1:Auckland - Rotorua
Mamaku Plateau, Rotorua Caldera, Ngongotaha Rhyolite dome, Kaharoa ash, Tarawera volcanic deposits
Accommodation at Rotorua

Day 2: Rotorua - Rotorua
Tikitere graben - series of basaltic explosion craters, Lake Okataina, Okataina and Haroharo volcanic centre complex
Accommodation at Rotorua

Day 3:Rotorua - Auckland
Waimangu volcanic valley, Paeroa fault, Waikite Hot springs, Te Kopia fumarole Waiotapu geothermal complex

Return to Auckland. We will travel via Auckland airport if necessary to drop off participants.
