for the geology of Northland trip
Day 1:Auckland - Dargaville
Algies Bay (east coast), then Tinopai coastal area of the Hukatere
Peninsula, Puketi Point towards Pakaurangi Point
on the Kaipara Harbour
Accommodation at Dargaville.
Day 2: Dargaville
-North Kaipara - Hokianga Region (Rawene)
Tokatoka, Maungaraho volcanic necks, Waipoua Basalt of Maunganui Bluff,
Omapere Conglomerate, Opononi Paleocene Limestone
Accommodation overnight at Rawene Hotel
Day 3:
Hokianga - Kaitaia or Mangonui
Tangihua volcanics of Whangape harbour and Herekino harbour,
Ahipara headland shore platform or Karikari Peninsula if time permits
Accommodation at Kaitaia/ Mangonui
Day 4:Kaitaia
- Bay of Islands -Kaikohe
Coopers Beach, Taupo Bay Whangaroa Harbour, Kerikeri & Kaikohe
volcanics,
Aroha Island

Accommodation at Bay of Islands/Kaikohe
Day 5:Bay of
Islands - Whangarei
Waitangi, Haruru Falls, McLeod Bay, Munro Bay & Whangarei Heads
Accommodation at Whangarei
Day 6:Whangarei
- Auckland
Waipu Cove, Langs Beach (to Bream Tail. depending on tide) (pass via
Mangawhai) otherwise to Mathesons Bay or Waiwera
Return to Auckland.
