Brief Places of focus
for the Mahia, Gisborne & Wairoa Tour
Day 1: Auckland - Tiniroto or Waikaremoana (Tuai)
Our route via Murupara takes us through the Te Urewera Forest via
Ruatahuna to Lake Waikaremoana, this lake with its beautiful forests was
formed by a giant slump dam.
Accommodation overnight at Tuai/ Wairoa or Tiniroto .
Day 2: Tuai/Tiniroto - Tiniroto
Te Reinga Falls Ruakituri River, Whakapunaki Peak
Accommodation at Tiniroto.
Day 3:Tiniroto - Gisborne or Mahia
Tiniroto Slump, Hangaroa River, Sponge Bay,
Rocks of southern Poverty Bay-Young Nick's Head or Waiwhero area
Accommodation at Gisborne or Mahia Beach
Day 4: Gisborne or Mahia - Mahia
Morere Hotsprings, Mahanga Beach area, Mahia Bush Reserve, Taylor's Bay
Accommodation at Mahia Beach
Day 5:Mahia - Wairoa
Whangawehi and Auroa Pt (Mahia), Mahia East Road, Portland Is view,
Mangapoike road, Wairoa lagoons -Whakamahi lagoon
Accommodation at Wairoa
Day 6: Wairoa - Auckland via Taupo
Te Awa Awa beach, Mohaka River, River Mouth & Viaduct
Return to Auckland
(Please note: there may be changes in the order of this program
according to tide &
weather and depending on availability of accommodation)
Return to Auckland. We will travel via Auckland airport if necessary to
drop off participants.
A more detailed itinerary will be sent out upon registration with a
receipt
Information for pickup, a reading list and accommodation addresses.
Although this tour originates and finishes in Auckland, it is possible
to join it on D1 in Rotorua and leave it on D6 in Taupo or other
location on route.
Also if you wish to join for selected days this can be arranged too at
negotiated rates.
